Details: SUMMARY: Provides vision, leadership, guidance and direction to manufacturing operations, facilitating a partnership between manufacturing, quality assurance, production control, purchasing and pre-production planning. Provides strong leadership toward achievement of continuous higher performance levels to meet the company's operational and financial goals and customer expectations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Follows all company and facility-specific production, quality, administrative and safety policies and procedures and insures that subordinate personnel understand and adhere to the same. Attends and actively participates in all required training. Supports/drives the active participation of manufacturing personnel in required training.Models appropriate behavior and uses effective communication, training and leadership skills to instill knowledge and understanding of operational goals, lean manufacturing techniques, continuous process improvement methods and processes within all levels of the manufacturing work force. Insures that subordinate manufacturing supervisors and lead people are motivated toward a higher level of involvement, understanding and ownership in their roles. Sets expectations and evaluates performance of production supervisors and other direct reports, including conducting reviews and using positive reinforcement to motivate achievement and disciplinary action within the confines of fairness and company policy. Develops and facilitates a cohesive team environment which builds confidence and strong morale, encourages innovation and creative problem solving and requires each individual to recognize their role in improving and maintaining quality and efficiency.Develop and lead Lean/Continuous Improvement activities. Responsible for reducing cycle time and product flow time by improving process capabilities, incorporating waste reduction methods, developing and maintaining effective cost containment/reduction strategies.Serves as an active member of the AQS team leading and assisting with activities to improve product quality.Develops measurements to establish meaningful benchmarks, evaluates results of data collection and takes appropriate action to improve manufacturing performance.Responsible for determining manufacturing staffing requirements and developing and implementing a process for substantive cross-training (resource development and sharing) throughout the manufacturing work force.OTHER POSSIBLE JOB DUTIES: Provide leadership, motivation and management overview to various cross-functional teams as required.Lead and bring to fruition projects, as assigned.Lead and bring to fruition capitol equipment and expansion projects.Participate in the development, installation, evaluation and revision of facility-level employee/production incentive programs.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct reports are production supervisors on all shifts and tooling/maintenance personnel. Indirect reports are all other manufacturing personnel.Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of manufacturing, tooling and maintenance. May also directly supervise non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None required. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION: Solid technical skills and understanding of machinery and shop floor/industry terminology. Experience/exposure to manufacturing scheduling. Solid understanding of and experience with JIT and lean manufacturing techniques and philosophies. Excellent situational leadership skills, including supporting excellence through personal actions, behavior, high standards and quality in all endeavors. Professional demeanor and presence, firm but fair and willing/able to exercise praise and disciplinary actions when appropriate or necessary, clear and concise communicator with active listening skills. Must have strong work ethic and be willing to commit extra time and effort required to achieve success. Well organized, able to prioritize, maintain focus and follow-through. Excellent analytical skills, delegation skills and a thorough understanding of and commitment to participative decision-making and pro-active rather than reactive management methods.
